Durif Viognier 2014
MUSEUM RELEASE - GOLD MEDAL WINNER
Inspired by Northern Rhone reds, this red is medium-bodied, textural, silky. Co-fermentation with 4% Viognier results in a fine, delicate and aromatic Durif.
With a rich ruby colour, this wine has lifted notes of violet and sweet spices. Characters of baked red plums, sweet red currants and macerated cherries follow on the palate. A cooler vintage delivered fine yet structured tannins in this supple wine.
Handpicked, handmade. Single vineyard.

94 points, Halliday:
Vigneron Rowly Milhinch has made the traditional image of durif stand on its head. It's vibrant and fresh, imposing red nuances in the foundation of dark berry fruit flavours. Its balance is such that you can enjoy it now or in ten years. (James Halliday)
93+ points, The Wine Front
It takes time to coax it forward. It has a pretty face but the mainstay of fruit isn’t going anywhere in a hurry. Slowly does it. Leather, rust, iodine, blackberry and anise. A distinctive palate, slaked with tannin, fruit-driven but with a clear pitch towards savouriness. Viognier seems to have been dialled back from previous releases, adding a sheen to the wine and not much more. We’re in excellent territory here. (Campbell Mattinson)
Gourmet Traveller
Grunt with grace. Adding a few bunches of white viognier can do wonders for shiraz - why not durif? Why not indeed says winemaker Rowly Milhinch: this is a terrifically perfumed spicy red wine, with firm, grippy tannins yearning for rare steak. (Max Allen)
